Welcome to Tent Rocks National Monument about 30 minutes southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Matt and I did this hike for the first time yesterday. What dramatic sights!
The striations in the rocks were created by layers of volcanic ash alternated with soil. The tent rock formations and slot canyons are from weathering and erosion. As if that wasn't enough, those who make the 750-ft ascent up the switchbacks at the end of the trail are rewarded with panoramic views of mesas, valleys, and our iconic high-desert skies.
