With all the critical drama in our day, why is it so difficult to accept a compliment?
When someone pays you a compliment, do you instantly play it down or discount it?
In the kitchen before work: “Wow, you made a sandwich and packed a lunch today.”
My response: “Yeah, it’s just something I threw together.”
Statement: "I really like the pictures you drew."
Response: "Thanks, but I'm no artist."
When you are being recognized in front of a group, do you scurry off the stage during their applause?
Embracing Verbal Recognition
Statement: “I really enjoyed your story. You kept my attention the whole time.”
Response: “Thank you,” or “Thank you. What exactly did I do that worked for you?”
Embracing Group Recognition during Applause
Respond in these ways to HONOR YOURSELF for making a difference for another person,
SILENCE your inner critic, and RESPECT those taking the time to recognize you for being awesome.
